Museum of days gone by
You are invited to take a step back in time in the open air museum ‘Ellert and Brammert’ in Schoonoord. Situated in the ancient Ellertsveld area, this museum brings the past of Southeast Drenthe back to life. A number of different dwellings and buildings have been reconstructed to show life in the region, the oldest one being a small turf cottage. The collection also includes an old Saxon farmhouse, a toll house, a school and even a prison. You can enjoy a snack and a drink at the old country inn. A playground and a children’s farm complete the museum. See Link for more information.
In ancient times the ogres Ellert and Brammert used to raid the surrounding area, scaring the local farming people. Now they stand immortalized at the entrance of the museum to attract the eye of the public. In the cave of the two robbers, part of the legend is depicted using three-dimensional scenes. A play garden and children’s farm complete the museum. There is also a chicken coop showcasing varieties of the famous Drenthe chicken breeds.
