De Hortus, Haren is een historische botanische tuin
The Hortus in Haren is one of the oldest and largest botanical gardens in the Netherlands. Here you will find many distinctive gardens, each with its own character and atmosphere, such as a Celtic Garden and a unique Chinese Garden. The gardens regularly provide the backdrop for a wide range of festivals, workshops and art exhibitions.
Hondsrug Garden
Since 2016 the Hortus has been part of the Hondsrug UNESCO Global Geopark, and the latest garden here is the Hondsrug Garden. In designing the garden, landscape architect Jan Maas took his inspiration from the Hondsrug. In this new garden, Hortus Haren invites visitors to experience the exciting and unique landscape of the Hondsrug.
Culinary
The botanical garden is home to several cafés, including the Plantage and the Chinese Teahouse. The food available here is just as varied as the gardens themselves. So the Hortus is a good place to come for a break before or after visiting other attractions in the Geopark.
